Dr Trueman is extremely passionate about providing quality antenatal care to expectant mothers. He understands that this is an extremely treasured moment in your life and is dedicated to providing current evidenced based practice to ensure that you, your partner and your baby receive the upmost care. With four children of his own Dr Trueman understands the process of child birth on a personal, as well as professional level. He will invest his time and resources into providing you with the best possible care to ensure that you have a safe delivery and enjoy the journey. Geoff has over 20 years of experience in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and has had the pleasure of welcoming over 5000 babies into the world (not that he’s keeping count).
He is assisted in his rooms by his dedicated and experienced staff that endeavour to support you through your pregnancy journey. Midwife Rosemary attends the rooms on Monday’s for our antenatal day and has appointments to see all of the expectant mothers before they see Dr Trueman.
Your partner and family are welcome to attend any consultations in the rooms.
Dr Trueman does offer share care with your G.P (if they are agreeable) for ladies living in rural or remote areas. This means you would only have to attend the rooms for every second visit. ‘Skype’ appointments are also available for those ladies living in rural/remote areas.
When should I Make my first appointment?
You should make your first appointment somewhere between 8-14 weeks.
We generally recommend meeting expectant mothers after their Nuchal Scans (12-13 weeks) but are more than happy to see you before if this is what you would prefer.
How often am I seen during my pregnancy?
Antenatal Visits are (usually) scheduled as follows:- 8 –14 weeks gestation = First visit
- 13-32 weeks gestation = once monthly
- 20 weeks gestation please complete hospital paperwork or the online booking.
- 32- 36 weeks gestation = fortnightly
- 34 weeks gestation= hospital interview is booked and coordinated with Dr Trueman’s antenatal appointment.
- 36 weeks gestation onwards= weekly until delivery
- Postnatal visit: 6 weeks after delivery usually performed in conjunction with Paediatrician appointment.

Initial testing (1-5 weeks)
Full blood and antibody test, Syphilis, Rubella, Hepatitis B and C, HIV and a urine culture should be ordered by your GP and copied to Dr Trueman.
First trimester/ Dating Scan (7-10 weeks)
A First trimester scan is recommended for those women who do not know when the first day of their last menstrual period was. The ultrasound establishes the dates of the pregnancy. This provides an accurate expected date of confinement.
Screening for Downs syndrome and other chromosomal issues (12-13 weeks) An optional nuchal translucency ultrasound and blood test are usually done between 12 and 13 weeks.
Morphology ultrasound (18-20 weeks)
This is a routine ultrasound to examine the baby’s anatomy and the placenta. You can find out the sex of the baby at this ultrasound if you wish.
Gestational diabetes (28+ weeks)
The Glucose Tolerance Test (GTT) screens for Gestational Diabetes (GDM), which is diabetes acquired during pregnancy. Women, who are over the age of 30, overweight or have a family history of diabetes, are at a higher risk of getting Gestational Diabetes. Gestational Diabetes is a serious condition that needs to be managed during your pregnancy.
